CBI court dismisses Kalyani’s bail plea in Sippy Sidhu murder case

Chandigarh, July 13: CBI court judge Jagjit Singh on Wednesday dismissed the bail application of Kalyani Singh, the key accused in the Sukhmanpreet Singh Sidhu, alias Sippy Sidhu, murder case.

The daughter of Chief Justice, Kalyani Singh was arrested on June 15 when she was called to join the CBI investigation.

Sippy Sidhu, an advocate by profession, was shot dead on September 20, 2015 in a park at Sector 27, Chandigarh. The case was transferred to CBI in 2016, which could not identify the accused in the case and filed a report. However, the report was not accepted by the court and it allowed the CBI to continue further investigation.

Sartej Singh Narula, counsel for Kalyani Singh, told the CBI court that "the CBI has arrested her without making any headway in the case. The investigation has so far not been able to establish any link.

On the other hand, special public prosecutor PK Dogra opposed the bail plea. He said the CBI had evidence that accused Kalyani Singh met Sippy Sidhu on September 20, 2015 in Sector 27, Chandigarh, and that she was seen talking to him. After few minutes, he was killed murdered by unidentified person(s).

After hearing of the arguments of both sides, the CBI court dismissed Kalyani’s bail application.
