Confirmed! T20 World Cup 2021 to be shifted to the UAE

Amid the outbreak of coronavirus in India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday said that the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 would be shifted to the UAE.

BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla said that as far as ICC T20 World Cup 2021 was concerned, June 28 was the deadline when the BCCI was supposed to inform the ICC about its decision.

Therefore, there was a conference call amongst BCCI office-bearers on Monday. "We met and looked at the COVID-19 situation," he said.

"Nobody is really sure what is going to happen after 2-3 months," he said, adding that a decision has been taken, keeping all things in mind, that BCCI will inform ICC to move it to UAE because that's an ideal venue after India.

"We wanted to host it in India and the first priority was India," said Rajeev Shukla.

He said that the dates were going to be the same and it will start immediately after IPL. The qualifiers may take place in Oman and the rest of the matches will be on three grounds -- Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah, he added.

It may be recalled that the IPL has been shifted to the UAE. The remaining matches of IPL 2021 would be played in the UAE from September 19.
