‘Covid’ and ‘Corona’, newborn twins named by Raipur couple during lockdown

While coronavirus has led to a nationwide lockdown in India, a couple in Chhattisgarh has named their newborn twins as 'Corona' and 'Covid'. The two words may evoke fear, but for this couple, they symbolize the victory over hardships as their twin babies, a boy, and a girl, were born amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The parents stated that the names of their children would remind them about the difficult time they conquered amid lockdown to bring their kids into the world. As per the report, the babies were born on the intervening night of March 26-27 at Dr. BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur.

Preeti Verma, the 27-year-old mother, told the news agency PTI that she was blessed with the twins – a boy and a girl á on March 27. She also said that they have named Covid (boy) and Corona (girl) for now. Adding, she said that she and her husband wanted to make the day memorable.

Preeti also said that the virus is indeed very dangerous and life-threatening but its outbreak made people focus on sanitation, hygiene, and inculcate good habits. When hospital staff started calling babies as Corona and Covid, we decided to name them after the global pandemic," she added.

Reportedly, the couple is originally from Uttar Pradesh. They live in a rented house in the Prani Basti area of Raipur. However, the couple stated that they might change their decision later and rename the children.
