COVID-19: Delhi govt seeks to shut down hotspot markets

Delhi Coronavirus Update: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said that "Since cases are rising in Delhi, we are sending a general proposal to Central Govt, that if required, Delhi Govt can implement shutting down those markets for few days, where norms are not being followed & they are becoming a local COVID-19 hotspot."

"I am thankful to the Central government for helping Delhi people by increasing 750 ICU beds immediately," Arvind Kejriwal said.

"All governments and agencies have doubled their efforts to control COVID-19 but it can't be done till people take precautions," he said, even as he appealed all to wear masks and follow social distancing.

He further said that "When Coronavirus situation improved in Delhi a few weeks ago, the number of people attending a wedding was increased to 200, according to the Center's guidelines."

Now, it's being withdrawn and only 50 people will be allowed. The decision has been sent for LG's approval," he announced.

Meanwhile, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain, while giving Delhi's Coronavirus Update, said that the Positivity rate is now below 13 percent from 15.33 percent last week.

"Though we're in the 3rd wave, the peak is now over. From here, we'll definitely see a downtrend. 16,500 beds have been reserved for COVID-19 and now there are around 8000 beds available," he added.

"There're many patients who are from outside but they get tests conducted here using Delhi address. We can't refuse anyone for tests. So, that results in an increase in numbers. Almost 25-30 percent outsiders are getting their tests done in Delhi," he said further.
