Arvind Kejriwal arrest: 'I will come out soon and keep my promise...' Sunita Kejriwal reads out husband's message

PTC Web Desk: Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Saturday read out a statement on behalf of the AAP leader, who is currently under custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection to the Delhi excise policy scam.

In the statement, read out by his wife Sunita Kejriwal, the Delhi CM addressed concerns about his incarceration, asserting his innocence and urging the public to trust him. He stressed the need to remain vigilant against internal and external forces that pose a threat to the country's stability.

"...There are several forces within and outside India that are weakening the country. We have to be alert, identify these forces and defeat them...Women in Delhi must be thinking that Kejriwal is behind bars. Who knows if they would get Rs 1,000. I appeal to them to trust their brother, their son. There is no jail that can keep him behind bars for long. I will come out soon and keep my promise...," Arvind Kejriwal wrote.

In a video statement, Sunita Kejriwal read out a message from her jailed husband to AAP members and residents of Delhi. Quoting Kejriwal, she expressed his determination, stating that no prison can confine him, and he will come out soon to fulfill his commitments.

Kejriwal also urged AAP workers not to harbor any resentment towards BJP workers due to his arrest. He assured his supporters of his eventual return and urged them to maintain unity.

Sunita Kejriwal, in the video statement, also reiterated her husband's dedication to serving the nation despite his arrest. She highlighted the ongoing struggle against forces, both domestic and foreign, aiming to destabilise the country.

While the BJP has demanded Kejriwal's resignation as Delhi's Chief Minister, the AAP says he will continue to govern even from behind bars. The BJP, in response, criticised the AAP, saying "criminal activities are managed from within prisons, not from the government".

Notably, the Delhi court granted the ED custody of Arvind Kejriwal till March 28, citing the necessity for thorough interrogation to uncover additional evidence related to the Delhi excise policy scam. The decision was made to confront Kejriwal with digital data and materials seized during the investigation.

The ED argued for a 10-day custodial interrogation, alleging Kejriwal's involvement in orchestrating the scam, drafting and implementing policies for personal gain, and using illicit funds in political campaigns, notably during the Goa Assembly election.
