Dutee Chand wins Gold medal in 100-metre race in Naples, PM Narendra Modi congratulates

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated ace-sprinter Dutee Chand on winning the Gold medal in 100-metre at the 30th Summer University Games at Naples in Italy. Dutee Chand took just 11.32 seconds and became the first Indian athlete to bag a gold medal at the global athletic event. Also, Dutee Chand's Gold medal was the first one for India at this edition.

PM Narendra Modi congratulated Dutee Chand and said, " Exceptional achievement of an exceptional athlete! Congratulations Dutee Chand for winning a hard-earned and well-deserved Gold in the Women’s 100 m finals. You make India proud!"

Also, Dutee Chand has dedicated the medal to her University Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT). Likewise, Dutee Chand has thanked the people of Odisha and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for the support. Meanwhile, Dutee Chand is happy for becoming the first girl to win a gold medal for India in the World University Games.

Dutee Chand has her season-best of 11.26 seconds among the 100-meter discipline, which was recorded in April 2019 at Doha. Also, Dutee Chand's personal best is 11.24 seconds. This is pertinent to mention that she is a two-time Asian champion and holds the national record for 100-meters.
