Amid farmers protest against farm laws 2020, at least 42 farmers' unions have been impleaded as parties to the case pending before the Supreme Court.
The development came after a Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde, on December 17, allowed farmers to continue their protest against the farm laws 2020.

The apex court had also directed the petitioners to ensure that all farmers unions be made a party to the case.
The petitioners sought removal of farmers from protest sites citing the inconvenience caused to the public as the protestors blocked roads.
One of the petitions was filed by law student Rishabh Sharma. He stated that it was necessary to remove the protestors as it was blocking roads and disrupting emergency/medical services in the national capital where Covid-19 cases were increasing rapidly.
