Hero Hockey World League semi-finals, India suffers its first reverse, loses 1-3 to the Netherlands

India's winning steak was disrupted in the Hero Hockey World League Semi-finals

as it went down fighting to the Netherlands 1-3 in London on Tuesday. This was India's first defeat in four matches and fourth consecutive win for the Dutch.

The Netherlands topped the pool as India finished second in the group.

After conceding 0-2 lead in the first quarter, India could ot repeat its winning performance of previous matches. Akashdeep was the sole consolation after the Netherlands had built a commanding 3-0 lead.

Since India has already qualified for quarter-finals, they play China next. Earlier, Canada and Scotland played 1-1 draw. Canada has also qualified for the quarter-finals.

Four top teams from this semi-final round will qualify for the Hero Hockey World League finals to be played in Bhubaneshwar in December this year.

Besides India, other teams in the run for berths in the final round  include Olympic champions Argentina, England and the Netherlands besides the hosts India.
