Income Tax Notice of Rs 100 Crore to Sonia, Rahul Gandhi in AJL Case

According to an income tax order passed after reassessing the income relating to Associated Journals Ltd., Congress leader Sonia and Rahul Gandhi have a tax liability of Rs 100 crore. According to the report, both the leaders had ‘escaped’ income in 2011-2012. The ‘escaped’ income was identified at Rs 155.4 crore for Sonia and Rs 155 crore for Rahul Gandhi for the same year.

Rahul Gandhi declared his income for the year 2011-2012, Rs 68.1 lakh. the IT department assessed the income of his party colleague Oscar Fernandes for the same year, Rs 48.9 crore. The Supreme Court is hearing an appeal of Congress leaders against re-opening of their tax assessment. P Chidambaram is appearing for Sonia Gandhi. He told the apex court that a tax liability of Rs 44 crore against her has been mistakenly imposed after re-assessing her income.

Rahul Gandhi is also facing a liability of similar amount. According to IT re-assessment order, more than 300 crores of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi’s income ‘escaped’. And their tax liability is around 100 crore.
