Jassi killing: 17 years later police arrest mother, uncle

Punjab Police today arrested the prime accused in the Jassi honour killing case- her mother, Malkiat Kaur, and maternal uncle Surjit Singh Badesha, both based in Canada.

The three member team is led by SP (Headquarters), Patiala, Kanwardeep Kaur, includes Dhuri DSP Akashdeep Singh Aulakh and Inspector Deepinder Pal Singh.

The team will reach India on September 22. Both are likely to be produced before a Sangrur judge on Friday.

Jassi and her husband, Sukhwinder Singh Mithu of Kaunke Khosa (Jagraon), were attacked on June 8, 2000, near Malerkotla by contract killers allegedly hired by Jassi’s mother and uncle.
