Union Sports Minister felicitates Indian women's boxing team for performances in World Boxing Championships

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Kiren Rijiju on Saturday felicitated the Indian women’s boxing team for its exceptional performance at Women’s World Boxing Championships 2019, held at Ulan-Ude, Russia. India won 1 silver and 3 bronze medals in the tournament.

Mary Kom settled for bronze in 51 kg category after losing to Busenaz Cakiroglu of Turkey in the semi-finals of Championship.

Debutant Manju won a silver medal in the 48 kg category. Meanwhile, the Union Minister said, "This Women's World Boxing Championships has been the best so far. We got 4 medals. 4 medals is a record for India, it is a kind of revolution in the Indian boxing history. It has inspired other arena also."

Kiren Rijiju honoured silver medalist Manju Rani with a cash prize of Rs. 14 lakhs while the 3 bronze medalists MC Mary Kom, Lovlina Borgohain and Jamuna Boro were given Rs. 8 lakhs each.
