Lakhimpur Kheri violence: UP cops paste another notice outside Union Minister's house

Lakhimpur Kheri violence: The Uttar Pradesh Police has issued a fresh notice to Union Minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish for appearance by 11 am on Saturday (October 9) after he missed Friday's (October 8) deadline.

Earlier, while hearing a public interest litigation in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, the Supreme Court said it was not satisfied with the steps taken by Uttar Pradesh to address the issue.

Appearing for the UP Government, advocate Harish Salve said Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra had been asked to appear for questioning at 11 am on October 9, failing which law would take its course.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested two accused in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. The arrested persons have been identified as Luvkush and Ashish Pandey.

As many as eight persons died in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident on October 3, said the Uttar Pradesh Police. The police on Monday (October 4) filed an FIR for murder against Ashish Mishra.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of several farmer unions, alleged that Ashish Mishra Teni, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni, arrived with three vehicles around the time that farmers were dispersing from their protest at the helipad and mowed down farmers and towards the end also attacked SKM leader Tajinder Singh Virk directly, by trying to run a vehicle over him.

However, Ashish Mishra refuted the SKM's allegations and said he was not present at the spot where the incident took place.
