Monsoon Session: 7 Oppn parties want Prez intervention in Pegasus, farm laws

Issues of Pegasus and Farm Laws in Parliament: The seven opposition parties, including Shiromani Akali Dal, on Tuesday, sought President Ram Nath Kovind's intervention "to uphold the dignity of Indian constitution."

The seven Opposition parties are Shiromani Akali Dal, Bahujan Samaj Party, Nationalist Congress Party, Jammu & Kashmir National Conference, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, and Rashtriya Lok Dal.

They have sought time from President Ram Nath Kovind to apprise him on the Pegasus issue and demand for repealing farm laws. They also urged him to direct the government to discuss both issues during the ongoing Parliament session.

Seven Opposition parties except Congress have sought Kovind's intervention "to uphold the dignity of the Constitution of India and parliamentary rules and procedures."

"We members of parliament (MPs) of various political parties are writing to you to seek an appointment to apprise you of two disturbing developments including the complete stonewalling of demands of the peasantry to repeal the three agricultural laws as well as the use of Israeli spyware Pegasus to tape telephones of politicians, journalists, and activists," they said in a statement.

"We MPS urge you to intervene personally and direct the government to discuss both issues during the ongoing parliament session in the spirit of a healthy democracy," they added.
