Aggarwal family patriarch dies after losing eight of relatives in Malviya Nagar fire
Radhe Shyam Aggarwal had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Saket and was unaware of the devastating fire that claimed the lives of eight of his family members.
PTC News Desk: The tragedy that struck the Aggarwal family has deepened further, with 80-year-old Radhe Shyam Aggarwal, the sole surviving member after last week's deadly hotel fire in Delhi's Malviya Nagar, passing away today. His death means that no immediate member of the family remains alive.
Radhe Shyam Aggarwal had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Saket and was unaware of the devastating fire that claimed the lives of eight of his family members. The family had been staying at the Flourish Inn, a bed-and-breakfast hotel located near the hospital, so they could more conveniently care for the elderly patriarch during his treatment.
Among those killed in the blaze were his son Vivek Aggarwal, wife Prem Lata Aggarwal, daughter-in-law Tarjani Aggarwal, granddaughters Jivisha and Varya, along with three other relatives. Concerned about the distance from their home and Delhi's traffic conditions, the family had chosen to stay at the hotel while attending to Radhe Shyam's medical needs.
According to relatives, doctors had informed the family that the patriarch's condition was critical and had advised them to prepare for the worst. Suffering from a respiratory illness, he had been admitted to the ICU. On the day of the fire, family members were expected to visit him during the hospital's morning visiting hours.
In a heartbreaking detail, Vivek Aggarwal's elder daughter, Jivisha, an engineering student in Bengaluru, had travelled to Delhi specifically to spend time with her grandfather and bid him farewell. Instead, the family became victims of one of the capital's deadliest recent fire tragedies.
