Delhi fire tragedy: Death toll mounts to 22 as another foreign national succumbs to injuries
PTC News Desk: The death toll in the Malviya Nagar bed and breakfast fire tragedy has risen to 22 after a forgein national died while undergoing treatment on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police on Sunday took accused Keshav Negi to the site of the incident to recreate the sequence of events as part of the ongoing investigation. Negi, who worked as a cook at the hotel, was arrested in connection with the case and was brought to the location to assist investigators.
Earlier, police had suggested that Negi's alleged negligence may have played a role in the fire. Several other individuals have also been detained as the probe continues. Initial investigations have pointed to multiple fire safety violations and significant shortcomings in the building's safety measures.
On Saturday, a Saket court remanded Negi to two days of police custody after he was produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class Bhanu Pratap Singh. Police sought his custodial interrogation to gather further details related to the case.
Hotel owner Lovkesh Bajaj, linked to Flourish Stays in Malviya Nagar, is also in police custody. During the court proceedings, Delhi Police argued that custodial questioning was essential for the investigation and indicated that a cooking gas leak could have been the cause of the fire.
