PTC News Desk: The Supreme Court has referred the inheritance dispute between Rani Kapur and Priya Kapur to mediation after both sides agreed to try resolving the matter through settlement talks.

Former Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud will act as the mediator in the case, which is related to the Sona Group family trust.

A Bench comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and Ujjal Bhuyan passed the order after all parties agreed to mediation. Rani Kapur had moved the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of the family trust and requested that the status quo be maintained regarding the transfer of properties.

“It’s a family dispute; let it be confined among the family only. It should not be a source of entertainment,” the court observed during the hearing.

During the earlier hearing, the court had issued notice to Priya Kapur and advised both sides to consider resolving the dispute through mediation.

Following discussions, both parties agreed to explore settlement options, after which the court formally referred the matter to mediation under Chandrachud.

The Supreme Court said it would wait for a preliminary report from the mediator before taking up the matter again. The next hearing is likely to take place in August.
