PTC News Desk: Heavy rainfall triggered flash floods in the upper areas of Thathri town in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district on Tuesday, causing partial damage to several houses, shops, and vehicles.

This is the third flash flood incident reported in the Doda and Kishtwar districts in the last two days, as continuous rain continues to affect the mountainous region.

According to officials, heavy rain in the higher reaches brought large amounts of water, mud, rocks, and debris into Thathri town. Several homes and business establishments were damaged as mudslides and boulders swept through the area.

"Following the rainfall this morning, there was a minor hill slope slide in the Prem Nagar area of Thathri tehsil. Mud and debris accumulated on the road, but it was cleared in the morning itself and traffic was restored," he said.

Many vehicles parked along the roadside were buried under debris, while local residents claimed that some vehicles were washed away into the Chenab River. Officials are still assessing the total damage and the number of vehicles affected.

The flash floods also blocked the Doda-Kishtwar highway at Thathri, disrupting traffic and transport in the area.

The district administration, police, and other agencies have started clearing debris, restoring road connectivity, and assessing losses caused by the flood.

The incident comes a day after another flash flood damaged a section of the Doda-Kishtwar highway near the under-construction Kwar Hydroelectric Power Project.

Krishan Lal said the administration acted quickly to deal with rain-related incidents and successfully restored affected roads in different parts of the district.
