PTC News Desk: Mumbai’s heavy monsoon rains turned deadly on Monday, with at least 10 people losing their lives in different rain-related incidents. A landslide near Lohagad Fort also trapped a family, while both the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Mumbai-Pune Highway were completely closed due to flooding and infrastructure damage.

The city witnessed several tragic incidents. In Kurla, a 63-year-old man died after a tree fell on a roadside shop. In Saki Naka, a man drowned after falling into a manhole hidden beneath floodwater. In Chembur, an 11-year-old child was killed when a tree crashed onto a school bus.

Two young men also lost their lives after entering the restricted Pandavkada Waterfall area in Kharghar. Another person died in the Mira Road-Bhayandar area when a coconut tree fell on them.

Meanwhile, a landslide in Patan village near Lohagad Fort reportedly trapped a family, and rescue teams have been deployed to the site. The situation has further worsened as both the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old highway have been shut in both directions following a concrete pillar collapse and flooding on alternative routes through Maval and Tamini Ghat.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad and Thane, warning of very heavy rainfall and strong winds of 50-60 kmph. Schools have been closed, examinations cancelled, and railway services disrupted due to a landslide on a rail route.

So far, at least 10 people have died in Mumbai and nearby areas because of incidents linked to the ongoing heavy rains, including tree collapses and drowning in flooded areas.
