Massive blaze erupts on Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express in Madhya Pradesh, passengers evacuated

The blaze erupted at around 5.15 am in the B-1 coach of train number 12431, which was carrying 68 passengers, a senior railways official said.

A massive fire broke out in one of the AC coaches of the  Thiruvananthapuram-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district early on Sunday. 


The blaze erupted at around 5.15 am in the B-1 coach of train number 12431, which was carrying 68 passengers, a senior railways official said.


The incident happened around 5:15 am in the B-1 coach and a nearby SLR (Seating cum Luggage Rake) coach of Train No. 12431 between Luni Richha and Vikramgarh Alot stations in the Kota Division of West Central Railway. No one was injured or killed in the incident. The train guard noticed smoke and flames coming from the coach and immediately informed the loco pilot. The train was then stopped and emergency evacuation began.


Senior railway officials, including DRM Anil Kalra, along with police and fire brigade teams, reached the site to supervise rescue and restoration work.



“All passengers of the affected coach were safely deboarded. No injury or casualty to any passenger or railway staff. OHE supply was cut immediately. The affected B-1 coach was detached from the rake,” the West Central Railway, Kota Division said in a statement.


Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Kota Division, Saurabh Jain, said that railway authorities were arranging extra coaches from Kota. The remaining part of the train was expected to continue its journey after necessary formalities were completed.


The incident also disrupted train movement on the Delhi-Mumbai route for nearly two hours while rescue work and safety inspections were carried out.
