Uttarakhand Police arrest four Nihang pilgrims after clash in Karnaprayag

The officer stated that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found disturbing law and order or endangering public safety, adding that no violator would be spared.

PTC News Desk: Uttarakhand Police on Thursday arrested four Nihang pilgrims  for assaulting and injuring locals with swords following a minor argument about vehicle parking in the Karnaprayag market area, police officials said on Wednesday.


The arrested pilgrims have been identified as Mantri Singh (21), Jasanpreet Singh (23), Ajay Singh (23), and Satwinder Singh (21), all residents of Mohali, Punjab.



Police said during the altercation, two Nihang pilgrims allegedly attacked Rawat with sharp weapons.


“Two other Nihang pilgrims then attacked locals who tried to intervene, injuring four people. One of the seriously injured persons was shifted to a hospital in Dehradun in an air ambulance, while the condition of the other three is stable,” police said.


According to Karnaprayag Police Station SHO Vinod Thapliyal, the incident took place on Tuesday. Action was initiated after a local resident, Gajpal Singh, filed a complaint against the accused. Police said the altercation occurred near Krishna Palace Hotel and involved local traders, a resident named Prakash Rawat, and a group of Nihang pilgrims returning from the Sri Hemkund Sahib pilgrimage.


The officer stated that strict legal action would be taken against anyone found disturbing law and order or endangering public safety, adding that no violator would be spared. He also said that police are closely monitoring the area to prevent any further disturbances and that the situation is currently under control.


Meanwhile, Sardar Sewa Singh, manager of the Gurdwara Sri Hemkund Sahib Management Trust at Govindghat, appealed to all devotees visiting the revered shrine to uphold peace, discipline, and communal harmony during their pilgrimage.
