Nepal province no.2 announces public holiday during Modi's visit

It will be a public holiday in Nepal's Province No. 2 on May 11 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Janakpur to offer prayers at the famous Janaki Temple and attend a felicitation ceremony, the provincial government announced.

More than 50,000 people from all eight districts of the province are expected to gather at the Barhabigha ground, where the felicitation ceremony would be organised to honour Prime Minister Modi, officials said on Thursday.

There will be a public holiday in all eight districts of the province on the day, according to the provincial Cabinet.

The province, bordering India, is Nepal's second most populous province.

Security has been stepped up in Janakpur, 225 km south of Kathmandu, which is famous for Janaki Temple, the early 20th century shrine.

Modi will fly directly to Janakpur, famous for Janaki Temple, from Bihar's capital Patna on May 11 during his two-day official visit to Nepal.

From Janakpur, Modi will fly to Mustang. Later in the day, he will fly to Kathmandu. PTI
