New Delhi, April 11: The BJP released the first list of candidates for the Karnataka assembly elections on Tuesday, listing names for 189 seats.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the party's poll incharge in Karnataka, and party general secretary Arun Singh addressed a press conference at which the candidates were announced. Arun Singh stated that the party handed tickets to a number of young faces.

"Fifty-two of the 189 candidates are newcomers," he remarked.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will run for re-election from Shiggaon.

According to Arun Singh, 32 candidates are from the OBC community, while 30 are from the Scheduled Caste community.

He claimed that the BJP's graph is rising under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Congress is facing divisions and groupism while JD-S is a sinking ship," he added.

BJP leaders stated that the party undertook a thorough feedback exercise before choosing party candidates and expressed confidence that the party would assume power in the southern state again.

Congress has already announced 166 candidates in two lists.

The election for 224 assembly members will take place on May 10, and the votes will be counted on May 13.
