2 youths from Punjab and Haryana killed by donkers in Guatemala after ransom demand fails
The family of Sahib Singh from Morian village in Dasuya, Punjab, had sold their land, livestock and even household jewellery to arrange nearly Rs 45 lakh demanded by travel agents who had promised to send him to America through 'safe channels'
PTC Web Desk: In a tragic incident, two youths, Sahib Singh from Morian village in Dasuya (Punjab) and Yuvraj Singh from Haryana, were allegedly murdered by human traffickers at Guatemala after their families failed to pay ransom money.
According to family members, 21-year-old Sahib Singh had left home in October 2024 with dreams of building a better future in the United States. His family sold their land, livestock and even household jewellery to arrange nearly Rs 45 lakh demanded by travel agents who had promised to send him to America through “safe channels.”
However, the journey turned fatal. Sahib’s brother-in-law, Gurdeep Singh, said Sahib and a group of other youths reached Guatemala, where they were captured by human traffickers, commonly referred to as “donkers.” The kidnappers recorded videos of their torture and sent them to families, demanding ransom for their release.
“Since we couldn’t arrange the ransom amount, the traffickers killed Sahib and another youth, Yuvraj Singh from Haryana,” said Gurdeep Singh. The devastated family learned about their deaths only a few days ago.
Sahib Singh was the only son of his parents and the sole brother to his two sisters. His father, Sucha Singh, has appealed to the authorities for justice and has demanded strict legal action against the agents who deceived them.
