Ludhiana blackout mock drill: A 15-minute blackout mock drill will be conducted in parts of Ludhiana on Friday from 8 pm to 8.15 pm, with the district administration urging residents to extend full cooperation.

The exercise will be carried out in areas falling under the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and Agar Nagar PSPCL divisions. A siren will be sounded at around 7.55 pm to alert residents, following which power supply will be immediately suspended.

During a meeting with officials, Assistant Commissioner Payal Goyal appealed to citizens to strictly comply with the blackout by switching off all lights. Public announcements will also be made from religious places to ensure maximum awareness.

The drill will commence with an alarm at PAU and will involve coordinated efforts by multiple agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), fire brigade, district administration, municipal corporation, police, health department, civil defence and NCC.

Officials said the mock exercise is aimed at simulating a real-time emergency response scenario and strengthening preparedness for unforeseen situations. Residents have been specifically advised not to use generators, power backup systems, torches, candles or matchsticks during the blackout period to ensure complete adherence to the drill protocols.

The administration emphasised that the initiative is a precautionary measure designed to enhance emergency response readiness and called on the public to participate responsibly.
