Rain lashes Punjab, Chandigarh; IMD issues alert for thunderstorm, hail and lighting

According to Chandigarh Meteorological Centre Director Surender Pal, light to moderate rainfall is expected in several places today.

PTC News Desk: The weather has significantly changed in Punjab and Chandigarh after heavy rain lashed several parts including Mohali, Ludhiana and Jalandhar. 


The Chandigarh Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, rain, lightning, and strong winds blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 km per hour. In addition to rain and thunderstorms, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also forecast hail across the region.



Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Moga, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala, Mohali (SAS Nagar), and Malerkotla.


According to Chandigarh Meteorological Centre Director Surender Pal, light to moderate rainfall is expected in several places today. He also said that on January 28, 31, and February 1, light to moderate rain may occur at some locations.


He added that minimum temperatures may rise by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius over the next two days. After that, temperatures are expected to drop by 3 to 5 degrees over the following two days, before rising again by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.
