Nabha head constable murder: Police identify accused, family refuses postmortem till arrests

PTC Web Desk: A shocking incident has rocked Nabha after a Punjab Police head constable, Amandeep Singh, was brutally murdered with sharp-edged weapons by a group of unidentified attackers. The incident took place in the Puda Colony area of Nabha, where the victim was a resident. His brother, Navdeep Singh, was also injured in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment.

Following the incident, Kotwali police swung into action and have identified the alleged accused. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Patiala, Varun Sharma, confirmed that two accused have already been arrested, while efforts are underway to nab the remaining suspects.

After inspecting the crime scene, SP Patiala Jasveer Singh stated that multiple police teams have been constituted to crack the case at the earliest. He added that several crucial clues have been recovered from the spot and assured that all those involved will be arrested soon.

According to police officials, the accused have been identified as Aashish alias Aashi, Sarv Kumar, Ricky (son of Raj Kumar), and another individual known as Ricky’s son, residents of the Balmiki Mandir area near Bouran Gate in Nabha. A few other unidentified youths were also reportedly involved in the crime.

The victim, Amandeep Singh, was married and is survived by his wife and a young child. Family members revealed that he was scheduled to participate in the Republic Day parade on January 26. Deeply aggrieved, the family has refused to allow the postmortem examination and cremation until all the accused are arrested.

Raising serious concerns over safety, the family questioned how common citizens could feel secure if police personnel themselves were not safe. They have demanded immediate action and strict punishment for those responsible.

Dispute over money led to murder: SSP

SSP Varun Sharma clarified that preliminary investigation suggests the murder was the result of a dispute over money between the accused and the deceased. An argument reportedly escalated into a violent attack, leading to Amandeep Singh’s death.

Based on the statement of the victim’s father, Rajinder Singh, a case has been registered at Kotwali Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Further investigation is ongoing.
