PTC News Desk: Rajvir Jawanda's untimely death adds latest to the tragic list of Punjabi singers who left for heavenly abode in their prime era.
The 35-year-old Punjabi singer and actor passed away after 11-days long battle for life following major road accident, causing serious and extensive damages to his brain and spine. He was admitted to Fortis Hospital on September 27 in an extremely critical condition.
Born with an innate love for music, Rajvir Jawanda’s journey was nothing short of inspirational. Despite coming from a family deeply rooted in the Punjab Police, where he also served, his passion for singing never faded.
Rajvir Jawanda was born in 1990 to Sikh parents in Ludhiana and joined Punjab police before making his passion-music his full-time career. He rose to fame with his debute in ‘Munda Like Me’ in 2014. He continued to flourish in music industry and became known for blending folk tunes with modern beats in hits like ‘Sardari’, ‘Tu Dis Penda’, ‘Kali Camaro’, ‘Shaandaar’, and ‘Dheeyan’.

Sidhu Moose Wala
Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, born on June 11, 1993 in Moosa village, Mansa and later moved to Canada. At the age of 28, he was shot dead in broad daylight on May 29, 2022, while he was in his native village. He suffered over dozens of bullets killing him on the spot. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the attack. Sidhu Moosewala was known for his music resonating political issues and prevailing controversies in Punjab.
Amar Singh Chamkila
Amar Singh Chamkila was born on July 21, 1960 in Dugri, Ludhiana used to work in a cloth mill before he debuted solo with Surinder Sonia and peaked with Amarjot Kaur. Known for his cheeky high-pitched songs on rural life drew massive crowds. However his widely-lauded music also drew massive criticism over its ostentatiousness. At 27, on March 8, 1988, he, Amarjot (pregnant), and band were gunned down in Mehsampur, Jalandhar. The mystery surrounding his death has remained unresolved till date with theories speculating provocative lyrics, jealousy, and extortion behind gruesome murder.
Ishmeet Singh
An introvert, soft-spoken boy born on September 2, 1989, in Ludhiana, Ishmeet rose to fame after winning Amul Star Voice of India in 2007 at 17. His devotional album 'Satgur Tumre Kaaj' signalled of him flourishing in music industry. However his prime era was short-lived after he passed away tragically on July 29, 2008, in a Maldives resort pool during a promo event. Though ruled drowning, injuries raised suspicions and his family alleged foul play, demanding a CBI probe.
Surjit Bindrakhia
Bindrakhia, a name that echoed as one of the most powerful voices of Punjabi. He was known for singing in a single breath. He rose to fame with the industry hits like 'Meri Nath Dig Paye', 'Dupatta Tera Satrang Da', 'Lak Tunoo Tunoo', 'Tera Yaar Bolda'. However his fame was short lived after his sudden demise due to heart attack.
Soni Pabla
Born as Tejpal Singh Pabla on June 29, 1976, near Bilaspur in Hoshiarpur, Soni moved to Toronto in the mid-1990s. After losing a finger in a factory accident, he took up truck driving before making his mark in music. His debut album “Heeray” introduced him to audiences, but his partnership with Sukshinder Shinda brought stardom through the hit track “Gal Dil Di.” Songs like “Panjaeb Yaar Di,” “Jatt Di Dushmani,” and “Boli Paani” made him a crowd favorite. Tragically, at the age of 30, Soni Pabla passed away on October 14, 2006, after collapsing on stage during a live performance in Brampton, Ontario, due to a heart attack.
Diljaan
Born Parmar Diljaan Singh on March 31, 1984, in Patiala, Diljaan came from a family of musicians and was trained in sufi-classical music under Ustad Purna Shahkoti. He gained fame through shows like Awaaz Punjab Di and was the first runner-up in the 2012 India-Pakistan reality contest Sur Kshetra. On March 30, 2021, just a day before his 32nd birthday, Diljaan died in a car accident near Jandiala Guru, Amritsar. While driving alone from Amritsar to Kartarpur, his car collided with a parked truck around 2:30 a.m., killing him on the spot. His final social media post had teased upcoming songs.
