Earlier, Majithia's counsel Bikramjit Singh Bath had been given a clean chit by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Punjab Police in connection with FIR No. 91 registered at Majitha police station.
PTC News Desk: An Amritsar court on Monday granted interim bail to Shiromani Akali Dal Bikram Singh Majithia in connection with FIR No. 91 registered at Majitha police station.
The case pertains to allegations that Majithia and several Akali workers entered the Majitha police station, tore official documents and obstructed government functioning.
Earlier, Majithia's counsel Bikramjit Singh Bath had been given a clean chit by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Punjab Police in connection with FIR No. 91 registered at Majitha police station.
A five-member SIT informed the court that no evidence had been found linking the advocate to any unlawful activity. The SIT further stated that Bath had visited the police station solely in his professional capacity as a lawyer to seek information and safeguard the legal rights of his client.
The FIR stems from case involving protest outside Majitha police station following alleged detention of SAD supporter Jobanpreet Singh, who was taken into the custody for objecting violent incidents during voting process for the Municipal elections. Several party leaders including Bikram Singh Majithia claimed that the family was not informed about his detention.
Protesting against the police action, Bikram Singh Majithia arrived at the Majitha police station along with his supporters and staged a sit-in demonstration.
According to the police, during the protest, Majithia and his supporters entered the police station premises. The police alleged that they attempted to secure the release of their detained supporter. Authorities further claimed that a sub-inspector's mobile phone was snatched and that some important documents inside the police station were damaged during the incident.
