Sangrur accident: 12-year-old killed after speeding Alto hits five children

Sangrur: A 12-year-old boy was killed and a 17-year-old girl was seriously injured after a speeding Alto car hit a group of five children in Sangrur district on Tuesday.

The accident took place at Bakhora Khurd village under the Lehragaga area. According to information, the children were walking through the village when the car, reportedly coming from the Bakhora Kalan side, struck them.

The deceased has been identified as 12-year-old Yudhveer, a resident of Bakhora Khurd. The injured girl, identified as 17-year-old Isha, suffered a serious leg injury and was shifted to Sangrur for further treatment.

Following the collision, panic spread in the area as people rushed to the spot after hearing the cries for help. Local residents took the injured children to a hospital in Lehragaga.

Doctors declared Yudhveer dead. Isha was given initial treatment before being referred to Sangrur as her condition was considered serious. The other three children sustained minor injuries.

Yudhveer's body was sent to Moonak for a post-mortem examination.

Driver leaves car and flees

The driver allegedly abandoned the Alto at the accident site and fled. The police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. The Alto reportedly bears a Haryana registration number.

The police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the driver.

Children were out for walk

It is learnt the children were out for a walk when the accident occurred. He said the Alto was allegedly being driven at high speed and hit the children.

The children noticed the approaching car and tried to move to the side of the road. However, the vehicle was travelling at such speed that it hit them before they could get out of the way.

Further investigation is underway.
