SAD leader Bikram Majithia's judicial custody extended till March 22

Mohali, February 24: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia's judicial custody in drugs case has been extended on Tuesday till March 22 by Mohali court.

Bikram Majithia appeared before the court on Tuesday. Earlier on February 24, he had surrendered in the court and applied for regular bail in a drug case registered against him in December last year.

However, his bail was rejected and he was sent to judicial custody till March 8.

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia has been booked under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, on the allegations of his alleged involvement in a drug racket in the state.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on January 24 had dismissed Majithia's anticipatory bail plea.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had also granted protection from arrest to Majithia till February 23 in view of the Punjab Assembly elections.

Majithia contested Punjab Assembly elections 2022 from Amritsar East against Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. He had said that people will reject his hate politics and arrogance adding that he will defeat the Congress leader.

The results for Punjab elections 2022 will be declared on March 10.
