India logs 3,824 new Covid-19 cases, highest single-day spike

The number of people who have recovered from the disease was reported to be 4,41,73,335.

New Delhi, April 02: India on Sunday has recorded 3,824 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 1,08,006, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This is the highest single-day jump in cases since the outbreak began in the country.

The latest figures also show that 29,435 people have recovered from the virus, while 3,435 people have died. The recovery rate stands at 27.14 per cent, while the mortality rate is 3.17 per cent.

According to reports, the number of active cases stands at 75,136, of which 56,854 are in home isolation and 18,282 are in hospital care. The number of people tested for the virus has risen to 6,02,343.

The highest number of cases have been reported from Maharashtra, which has seen a total of 36,902 cases so far, followed by Gujarat (14,857) and Delhi (13,418).

The government has been taking a number of measures to contain the spread of the virus, including the imposition of nationwide lockdowns and the launch of an ambitious testing programme. Health experts have warned that the nation is likely to see a surge in cases in the coming days and weeks.

It is essential that people follow the advisories issued by the government and practice social distancing. People must also wear masks in public, wash their hands frequently and avoid touching their face. These simple steps can go a long way in curbing the spread of the virus.
