Passenger finds insect in meal on Vande Bharat Express, shares video
This is not the first time Vande Bharat Express has come under scrutiny for food-related issues
PTC Web Desk: A recent incident aboard the New Delhi-bound Vande Bharat Express has sparked widespread concern about food safety and hygiene on India’s flagship train service. On July 22, a passenger shared a shocking image on social media showing a black insect floating in a serving of daal provided in an aluminum meal container.
The post, uploaded to X (formerly Twitter), quickly went viral. It read: "Insect found in food during journey in Vande Bharat train dated 22 July 2025: Train no 22440, Coach C3, Seat 53."
The image led to a flood of critical reactions online, with many questioning the quality control measures and cleanliness protocols followed by the catering teams onboard one of India’s most premium trains.
In response, the official handle of RailwaySeva issued an apology, asking the user to share further details for prompt redressal:
“We regret the inconvenience! Please share the details, PNR and mobile no. You may also raise your concern directly on https://railmadad.indianrailways.gov.in for speedy redressal.”
This is not the first time Vande Bharat Express has come under scrutiny for food-related issues. In a similar case last year, a passenger found insects in sambhar, with the photo drawing sharp reactions online. These repeated incidents have raised pressing concerns over the effectiveness of Indian Railways' catering and food inspection systems.
Passengers and citizens are now demanding stricter checks on food vendors, regular hygiene audits, and improved training for staff to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
Launched under the government’s “Make in India” initiative, the Vande Bharat Express promises a fast, modern, and comfortable rail travel experience with high-end amenities. However, recurring hygiene complaints threaten to undermine public trust in the service.
