Unlock 3.0: Chandigarh unlikely to remove night curfew

Unlock 3.0: While the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday announced the guidelines for Unlock 3, the UT administration is unlikely to remove the night curfew. Instead, the administration is looking to extend the night curfew timings in the city.

Currently, the timings of night curfew is from 10 pm to 5 am. Though the Central government has removed the night curfew and restrictions on the movement of people during this period, Chandigarh administration is likely to extend it from 8 pm to 5 am, a report suggested.

As per the report, a senior UT official stated that there will be exceptions for eating outlets, hotels and restaurants that can operate till 9 pm.

Reportedly, the administration had held discussions with the traders of the city, who had agreed to close their shops by 8 pm. As per Unlock 3 guidelines, the states and UTs can prohibit certain activities outside the containment zones or impose restrictions based on their assessment of the situation.

However, the traders have asked the administration to grant other relaxations as per Unlock 3. Meanwhile, the UT administrator VP Singh Badnore will take a final decision on the matter in a war room meeting.
