Viral Acharya resigns as RBI Deputy Governor before completion of the term

In a major setback to Reserve Bank of India, the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Viral Acharya has resigned from his position, here on Monday. The is the second reshuffle in the past seven months when a senior RBI official has left his position before the completion of his term. Earlier, The Reserve Bank of India's Governor Urjit Patel resigned from his position claiming his personal reasons in December.

Viral Acharya has resigned from his RBI Deputy Governor post about six months before the completion of the term. Viral Acharya was among the senior officials of the Reserve Bank of India who was the part of Urjit Patel's team. Reportedly, Viral Acharya is now likely to join as a Professor at Saturn School of Business in New York University. Viral joined the Reserve Bank of India as a Deputy Governor on January 23, 2017. Accordingly, Viral had been working with the central bank for nearly 30 months.

Earlier, Urjit Patel resigned as the RBI Governor before the completion of his term. Therefore, Shri Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as the governor of the Reserve bank of India. Surely, this is the major setback to the Central Bank, after Urjit Patel resigned, now resigns the Deputy Governor Viral Acharya. Viral Acharya is likely to step in as a Professor at Saturn School of Business in New York University, as per the media reports, as no clarification has been made yet.
