India continues to support earthquake-hit Turkey, sends second batch of help

New Delhi, February 7: As part of the Humanitarian And Disaster Relief (HADR) to earthquake-hit Turkey, India has dispatched the second batch of aid with an Indian Air Force (IAF) C-17 loaded with self-contained NDRF teams, including dog squads, search and rescue equipment, extrication tools, and vehicles.

India is extending its assistance to Turkey in the aftermath of the earthquake that struck the country on Monday.

In response to the situation, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) tweeted, "Second @IAF_MCC C-17 with self-contained @NDRFHQ teams including dog squads, search & rescue equipment, extrication tools and vehicles leaves for Turkiye. India continues to support the people of Turkiye in their hour of need."

Earlier, an Indian Air Force plane carrying the first batch of disaster relief supplies and a rescue team to help with search and rescue efforts in Turkey arrived in Adana.

The C17 flight carrying over 50 members of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and a specially trained dog squad, as well as medical supplies, drilling machines, and other aid equipment, took off for Turkey early this morning.

Several other countries have stepped forward to help Turkey after a massive earthquake devastated the country.

The death toll in Turkey had risen to at least 3,381 as of 9:45 a.m. local time on Tuesday, according to Orhan Tatar, an official with the country's disaster management agency. At least 20,426 injuries have also been reported.

According to the US Geological Survey, at least 100 aftershocks measuring 4.0 or higher have occurred since the 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey on Monday morning local time.

The quake, one of the strongest to hit the region in more than a century, struck at a depth of 24.1 kilometres, 23 kilometres east of Nurdagi in Turkey's Gaziantep province, according to the USGS.
