'Don’t miscalculate': Asim Munir warns India of tougher action against any future attack on Pakistan
PTC Web Desk: Field Marshal Asim Munir officially took charge as Pakistan’s first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) on Monday during a ceremony held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. He was also presented with a guard of honour as he assumed the newly created position alongside his existing role as Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
In his address, Asim Munir issued a strong warning to India, saying Pakistan would respond “faster and harder” to any future aggression. He urged India not to be under any “miscalculation.”
Munir said modern warfare has expanded into new domains such as cyberspace, electromagnetic spectrum, space, information warfare, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing. He stressed that Pakistan’s armed forces must adapt themselves to these rapidly evolving challenges.
Referring to tensions earlier this year, he claimed that Pakistan gave a “firm response” to India under his leadership in May during Operation Sindoor, praising the patience and resilience shown by both the military and Pakistani citizens.
Warning to Afghan Taliban
Munir also issued a sharp message to the Afghan Taliban, saying they must choose between maintaining good relations with Pakistan or the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). He accused the Taliban of supporting militants active inside Pakistan and said the country would not compromise on its national security or territorial integrity.
Munir has repeatedly alleged that certain terror groups receiving support from the Taliban are also backed by India; claims that India has dismissed in the past. Pakistan considers the TTP a terrorist organisation and accuses it of receiving external assistance.
Notably, on December 4, the Pakistan government appointed Asim Munir as the country’s first CDF and extended his tenure as Army Chief for five years. President Asif Ali Zardari approved the appointment following a recommendation sent by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Earlier this year, Munir was elevated to the rank of Field Marshal, becoming the only officer in Pakistan to simultaneously hold the positions of CDF and COAS.
