Amritsar 'Passport Office' Cancels Business Family’s Passport
Amritsar, Punjab: The Amritsar Regional Passport Office (RPO) has canceled a business family passport here because the family’s business has a bank loan worth Rs 250 crore.
Perhaps, it is the first case of its kind that has been reported in the country.
According to the information, Canara Bank is the main lender in this case and it has contacted the Amritsar Passport office that Kulwinder Singh Makhani and his wife Jasmeet Kaur could leave and run away from the country.

Makhani owns Rice mills and exports rice to the foreign countries as well.
The matter came up in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, when Jasmeet Kaur challenged the passport office's decision on August 13 in the court, after which the court asked the passport office to submit the details of the case by September 27.
The court asked the passport office to decide on the matter within a month.
Jasmeet Kaur Makani filed a petition in the court saying that her family wants to go to Canada to attend a ceremony on September 22
This decision has been taken as the high profile businessmen like Vijay Mallya and Nirv Modi have fled the country after being declared defaulter. She said that the common case of debt was presented in a criminal case by the passport office which is wrong.
