Mumbai (Maharashtra), February 23: After the arrest of Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik in a money laundering case, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader's resignation and threatened to protest if he did not step down. Speaking over the matter, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrakant Patil stated, "Nawab Malik has been arrested, he should resign now. We demand his resignation. If he doesn't, we will protest." "How are they running the government? There's a long list of allegations against Maharashtra Ministers, one will get tired reading it," he further added. Meanwhile, soon after his arrest, the NCP leader said that he is not scared and will fight and win. Earlier, facing a fresh grilling on Wednesday, Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik was probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the money laundering case for six hours. According to ED sources, the investigating agency interrogated Malik over an alleged land deal linked with fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim's brother Iqbal Kaskar. The ED had summoned the minister in the morning and brought him to its office. BJP demands Nawab Malik's resignation Last week, the ED had conducted raids at the residence of Dawood Ibrahim's sister Haseena Parkar in Mumbai in connection with the money laundering case. Meanwhile, Maharashtra NCP chief and state minister Jayant Patil said party colleague Nawab Malik was taken to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office without prior information, adding that the BJP was taking revenge from him for 'exposing' its leaders. "Nawab Malik has been taken to the ED office for questioning, without any prior information. He had exposed BJP leaders in the past few days, so revenge is being taken now," said Patil while talking to the media.
