Chandigarh crosses 1,000-mark; records 1,114 new Covid-19 cases

Chandigarh: Chandigarh on Wednesday reported 1,114 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, crossing into the 1,000 mark for the first time since the pandemic began. The active Covid-19 cases in Chandigarh rose to 4,808 while the positivity rate stands at 21 per cent. As many as 357 persons are in the hospital while 25 on ventilators. The deceased was an 87-year-old fully vaccinated woman, who had been suffering from diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease and hyperthyroidism. The city’s fatality count stands at 1,084. Earlier, amid a rise in Covid-19 cases, the Chandigarh Administration had enforced fresh restrictions. The new restrictions, which include night curfew and shutting down of all educational institutes are still in force. Medical and nursing colleges may continue to function normally in offline mode. All government offices in Chandigarh, except essential services/departments, will function with physical attendance of 50 per cent capacity of actual strength with regard to Group C & D staff to contain Covid-19 surge.
