Chandigarh International Airport will remain closed October onward! Chandigarh International Airport will remain closed for a span of six months. As the renovation is long due, the airport will not function during the same. The airport is likely to stay closed from October 2017 to April 2018.The matter of the closure of the airport came to light when, the Mohali Industry Association filed a petition in the High court, seeking actions against the officers responsible for not launching international flights from Chandigarh International Airport.The schedule for the renovation of the airport has been fixed, it will begin on October 3 and all the airport officials and other authorities must be given a 60 days’ notice.Assistant Solicitor General Chetan Mittal, who has been appointed by the government, said to the bench that the airport demands a renovation for a long time now. Necessary repairs were under consideration for a long time now, he added.Even before the inauguration of the international airport, this work was being considered, but at the same time the international airport was inaugurated hence the work was delayed and the repairs had started.He also told the Bench that a meeting of the airline companies will be held on August 10 and the work to be commenced at the airport will be considered. It is likely that the flights from Chandigarh can be shifted to nearby airports like Ambala etc. —PTC News
