India reports highest-ever single-day spike of nearly 17,000 cases in last 24 hours

India reported 418 deaths and the highest single-day spike of 16,922 new positive cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, as of Thursday morning. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has increased to 4,73,105 including 1,86,514 active cases, 2,71,697 cured and discharged and 14,894 deaths, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Thursday. All Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) stated that 75,60,782 samples were tested till June 24 while 2,07,871 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Of new deaths, 208 have been reported from Maharashtra, 64 from Delhi, 33 from Tamil Nadu, 25 from Gujarat, 8 from Uttar Pradesh, 10 from Rajasthan, 11 from West Bengal, 9 from Madhya Pradesh, 10 from Haryana, 5 from Telangana, 5 from Andhra Pradesh, 14 from Karnataka. Maharashtra has reported 1,42,900 cases while Delhi has 70,390 cases, Tamil Nadu has 67,468. Gujarat has 28,943 cases while Uttar Pradesh has 19,557, Rajasthan 16,009.
