Covid-19 vaccine for children: Corbevax to cost Rs 800 in market, Rs 145 for government
New Delhi: The Corbevax Covid-19 vaccine for children in the age group of 12 to 14 will cost Rs 800 in the market excluding taxes and will be sold to the government at Rs 145, said sources.
The vaccine's price for the government will be the lowest in the world.
Notably, India today started administering the Covid-19 vaccine to children aged between 12 and 14. According to the government's estimates, the children in this age group are around five crores and will get the Corbevax vaccine made by the domestic firm Biological E.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as the vaccination started for children, tweeted, "Today is an important day in India's efforts to vaccinate our citizens."
Due to process innovation, large-scale manufacturing and efficient high-quality operations, Biological E claims to provide the most affordable Covid-19 vaccine on the global scale.

The government announced vaccination guidelines for children aged 12 to 14 years old on Tuesday, which said that only Corbevax would be administered for this age group. The guidelines stated that children aged 12-14 would receive two doses of Corbevax at a 28-day gap.
The challenge, according to an officer at a vaccination centre in Delhi, would be to guarantee that those seeking vaccinations are not under the age of 12 or over the age of 14.
To resolve this issue, the officials are checking Aadhaar or school identity cards and are ensuring that the children who have applied for vaccination are eligible.
