Heavy rain spell in Delhi-NCR triggers waterlogging, leaves commuters stranded; red alert issued
PTC News Desk: The residents of Delhi-NCR woke up to a heavy spell of rain on Wednesday morning with the traffic brought to stand still. The heavy rains triggered massive waterlogging in the state leaving the commuters stranded.
The area near the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport was also battered by heavy rain. However, no disruption to flight operations was reported.
Traffic jams were reported in several parts of the cities including South Delhi, ITO, and the Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road.
Meanwhile the weather department has issued a red alert and said that moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and winds gusting at 30-40 km/h likely to grip Delhi-NCR.
Parts of Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh are also predicted to be soaked in light to moderate rain throughout the day.
Before today's downpour, Delhi logged 136.3mm rainfall. The city normally sees 209.7mm in July.
