'My son is mentally ill, upset over stray dogs ruling,' says Delhi Chief Minister's attacker's mother
PTC News Desk: Upset over the Supreme Court's verdict over stray dogs probably drove Rajesh Sakariya all the way from Gujarat to Delhi and resulted in offensive confrontation with Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta, his mother claimed.
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta was allegedly assaulted by a man during a Jan Sunwai (public hearing) at her residence on Wednesday, police said. As per initial reports, the accused, believed to be around 40 years old and carrying a bag, suddenly approached the Chief Minister amid a crowd and attacked her.
The accused's mother has claimed that her son is mentally upset and an ardent animal lover who was upset over the apex court's ruling to relocate all the stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelter homes.
“He has a mental illness but he never takes any medicine. He loves animals, he was upset since the news about the dogs came. He used to beat everyone at home, his nature has become like this,” she said.
According to her, Sakariya left home on Sunday without informing the family. “When his father called him, Rajesh said, ‘I’ve gone to Delhi. I saw the video of the dogs, that’s why I went there,’” she said.
“I do not know what he did there. His mind is like that, he can hit anyone. He has even attacked me in the past,” she added.
