Diwali in US: The Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, on Monday extended his Diwali greetings to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as he celebrated the auspicious Hindu festival with leaders of the Indian-American community at his sprawling official residence in Austin. "Tonight, Cecilia and I celebrated Diwali at the Governor's Mansion. We welcomed friends as we lit Diwali lamps and celebrated the victory of light over darkness, goodness over evil, and hope over despair. Happy Diwali to those celebrating the Festival of Lights!" Governor Abbott said on Twitter. Texas is said to have a significant Indian-American population in the United States. Aside from that, US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill will host a Diwali reception in the East Room. Vice President Kamala Harris is also expected to attend. Biden and First Lady Jill Biden have invited Indian Americans to the White House on Monday, October 24 to celebrate Diwali. On October 26, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will throw another Diwali party at the State Department for the diplomatic community. Several well-known Indian Americans attended the event. Last year, several White House officials and US lawmakers joined the Indian diaspora on Capitol Hill to celebrate Diwali. Indiaspora held the annual reception, which also honoured some of the top Indian Americans in the Biden administration. The event included the traditional Diwali 'Diya' lighting as well as remarks from numerous elected and appointed federal government leaders and MPs. Congressmen Ami Bera, Pramila Jayapal, Ro Khanna, and Raja Krishnamoorthi also spoke at the event and greeted the community.
