Scheduled for a theatrical release on December 1, the film's original release date in August was postponed due to pending post-production work.
Announced by T-Series in January 2021, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and initially Parineeti Chopra, later replaced by Rashmika Mandanna. Tripti Dimri was also reported to join the cast. Ranbir clarified that while he admired Vanga's previous works like Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh, his decision to take on Animal was rooted in the script and character rather than the director's previous films' controversial themes.
