IFFI jury head sparks controversy, calls The Kashmir Files ‘vulgar propaganda’
Goa, November 29: Sparking a major controversy during the closing ceremony of the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) at Goa, the jury head, Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid criticised Vivek Agnihotri’s film "The Kashmir Files" on stage and called it a "vulgar propaganda."
While making a speech at the closing ceremony, Nadav said, “We were, all of us, disturbed and shocked by the 15th film: The Kashmir Files. That felt to us like propaganda, vulgar movie, inappropriate for an artistic competitive section of such a prestigious film festival.”
Union Ministers and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant were also present on the occasion.
Directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, "The Kashmir Files" was released in theatres on March 11. The film revolves around the killings and exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990 from the valley.
"The Kashmir Files" starring Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi in lead roles was a hit in India.
