Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith Balakrishnan has been arrested after a woman actor filed a fresh complaint accusing him of sexual harassment. The development has drawn attention within the film industry and sparked renewed discussion around safety and accountability on film sets.

Ranjith was taken into custody on March 31 by Kerala Police in connection with the complaint. Authorities registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, dealing with allegations of sexual harassment and assault. He was later produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody as the investigation began.

According to the complainant, the incident occurred during a film shoot. She alleged that the director behaved inappropriately and made unwanted physical advances. The actor stated that she resisted the act, after which he withdrew. The complaint led to formal legal action and subsequent arrest.

Following his arrest, Ranjith was placed in judicial custody for further investigation. Police officials have initiated procedures to record statements and collect evidence related to the case. The matter is currently under active investigation, and further developments are expected as the inquiry progresses.

Ranjith has denied the allegations against him. He has maintained that the accusations are false and has indicated that he will challenge the case through legal means. The case has once again highlighted concerns about harassment and misconduct in the film industry. It adds to ongoing conversations about the need for stronger mechanisms to ensure safe working environments, particularly for women in cinema.

Authorities continue to examine the details of the complaint and gather evidence. The case remains under investigation, and its outcome will depend on the findings presented before the court.
