Ranveer Allahbadia, others booked for "offensive remarks" on India's Got Latent, Youtuber extends apology

PTC News Desk: In a turn of events, YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia is making headlines but for all the wrong reasons. A formal complaint has been lodged against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina following a series of alleged controversial and offensive remarks made on the show.

The organisers of the show have also been booked along with the content creators.  Later, the Youtuber took to his social media and posted a video while acknowledging that comedy is not his suit and also offered an apology.

Sharing a video, he said, "My comment wasn't just inappropriate, it wasn't even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I'm just here to say sOrry. Many of you asked if this is how I wish to use my platform and, obviously, this is not how I wish to use it. I'm not going to give any context or justification or reasoning behind whatever happened."

He added, "I'm just here for an apology. I personally had a lapse in judgment. It wasn't cool on my part. The podcast is watched by people of all ages. I don't want to be the kind of person that takes that responsibility lightly and family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect."

The complaint has been registered with both the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women's Commission demanding stern action against the accused.

The controversy erupted after remarks made by Allahbadia during a YouTube episode of 'India's Got Latent' were deemed offensive and derogatory. Content creators Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh and Apoorva Mukhija had also featured along with Beer Biceps.

During the show, Allahbadia posed certain remarks in joking context sparked widespread outrage. The letter further emphasizes that such remarks were made with the intention of profiting from controversy, with no regard for the harm caused to women's dignity or the negative influence on young audiences, particularly minors, who might have been exposed to these comments.

In response to the incident, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, "I have come to know about it. I have not seen it yet. Things have been said and presented in a wrong way. Everyone has freedom of speech, but our freedom ends when we encroach upon the freedom of others. In our society, we have made some rules, if someone violates them, it is absolutely wrong, and action should be taken against them."
