PTC Web Desk:  The National Lok Adalat in Mohali has accepted the police closure report in a case filed against popular rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh. The case, dating back to 2018, was linked to allegations of using obscene and derogatory lyrics against women in his song “Makhna.”

According to the complaint, an FIR was registered at the Mataur police station under Sections 294 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, and Section 6 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act. The case was initiated based on statements made by ASI Lakhwinder Kaur and then Punjab State Women Commission chairperson Manisha Gulati.

During the proceedings, both complainants informed the court that they had no objection to the cancellation of the case. The police further highlighted in their report that the song in question had already received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on December 27, 2018, and no individual woman was directly made a party to the case.

Presiding officer Anish Goyal, after reviewing the case file and taking into account the complainants’ consent, approved the closure report. With this order, the six-year-old legal battle against Honey Singh has officially come to an end.

It is noteworthy that following the release of the album 'Makhna' in 2018, objections were raised over the alleged use of offensive lyrics against women. Based on the Punjab Women Commission’s recommendation, an FIR was registered, and the then chairperson, Manisha Gulati, even called for the song to be banned in the state. However, after prolonged hearings, the case has now been dismissed.
